Đà Nẵng is Vietnam’s undisputed bridge capital, where the Han River is spanned by architectural marvels that have become symbols of the city. Here is how to experience them, from the urban heart to the mountain heights.

The Urban Route: Six Bridges Along the Han River
This 6-kilometer route follows the river’s edge, connecting Đà Nẵng’s most iconic urban bridges. Start at Thuận Phước Bridge the city’s longest suspension bridge and walk south along the eastern bank. The pedestrian path offers uninterrupted river views and cooling breezes.
Sông Hàn Bridge comes next, a swing bridge that rotates to allow ships passage. Walk across for the classic view of the city skyline framed by steel cables.
Dragon Bridge is the route’s centerpiece. Stretching 666 meters across the river, its golden dragon shape references the Ly Dynasty. The walkway offers close-up views of the dragon’s head which breathes fire and water on weekend nights.
Trần Thị Lý Bridge impresses with its soaring white arch, illuminated in shifting colors after dark. Continue to Nguyễn Văn Trỗi Bridge, a more intimate structure perfect for sunset. End at Tiên Sơn Bridge, where the river widens toward the sea.
Best time: Late afternoon (3:30–5:30 PM) to catch the changing light, followed by the evening illumination.

Dragon bridge fire show: The city’s spectacle
Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9:00 PM, Dragon Bridge delivers one of Vietnam’s most thrilling free spectacles. The dragon’s mouth ignites, sending flames 20 meters into the air through eight bursts, followed by plumes of water spraying across the river.
Viewing strategy: Arrive by 8:30 PM. The best vantage points are on the bridge itself (arrive early to secure a spot) or the eastern riverbank near the dragon’s head. Expect crowds, this is a city-wide event. After the show, wait 20 minutes for the pedestrian traffic to clear before departing.

The golden bridge: Beyond the city
Perched 1,400 meters above sea level in the Bà Nà Hills, the Golden Bridge requires a half-day excursion, but the experience justifies the journey. Opened in 2018, this pedestrian bridge appears cradled by two giant stone hands emerging from the mountainside, offering surreal views over the forested peaks below.
Getting there: A 45-minute drive from Đà Nẵng, followed by a cable car ascent, the longest non-stop cable car in the world. The bridge sits within the Sun World Bà Nà Hills complex, accessible via day pass.
Timing: Arrive at the cable car station by 7:30 AM to reach the bridge before tour groups. The morning light illuminates the hands perfectly, and crowds are manageable until 10:00 AM. Afternoon visits mean longer queues and harsher light.

One-day bridge itinerary
- 7:00 AM – Depart for Bà Nà Hills
- 8:00 AM – Golden Bridge (before crowds)
- 12:00 PM – Return to Đà Nẵng, lunch
- 3:30 PM – Begin Han River bridge walk
- 5:30 PM – Sunset at Nguyễn Văn Trỗi Bridge
- 8:30 PM – Position for Dragon Bridge fire show
- 9:00 PM – Fire show
- 9:30 PM – Riverside dinner to end the evening

Practical tips
Walking the urban route: The full Han River circuit is 6 kilometers, allow 2–3 hours with stops. Each bridge has pedestrian paths; the eastern bank offers the most continuous walking experience.
Golden Bridge tickets: Buy tickets online in advance to avoid queueing. The cable car ride alone justifies the trip, 45 minutes of descending mist, mountain peaks, and forest canopy.
Photography: Dragon Bridge is best photographed from the eastern riverbank at 50mm–70mm. Golden Bridge demands wide-angle (16mm–24mm) to capture both the bridge and the giant hands.

Đà Nẵng’s bridges tell the story of a city that builds upward and outward, connecting communities across water and mountain. Walk them, watch them ignite, and understand why this city has earned its place among Vietnam’s most captivating destinations.
